How We Build Seats at Urban Crescent
When buying a sofa or outdoor seat, most people focus on fabric, colour, or size.
At Urban Crescent, we start somewhere else entirely.
We start with how a seat is built internally.
Every Urban Crescent seat is designed using a defined internal seat system. These systems determine how the seat behaves under weight, how it holds over time, and how it performs in real living conditions. Indoors and outdoors
This approach allows us to design seating that lasts, feels intentional, and performs exactly as expected. Today, Urban Crescent uses three internal seat systems:
- ReboundCore™
- FormLock™
- MK-I
Each system serves a specific purpose.
What Is ReboundCore™?
ReboundCore™ is the seat system we use when comfort needs to be responsive. This system is designed to receive weight, adapt to movement, and return to form after use. Instead of collapsing or softening unpredictably, the seat maintains control while still feeling welcoming.
ReboundCore™ is ideal for sofas used in living rooms, lounges, and everyday family spaces where comfort and movement matter. I.e Belmont, Polo, Oleshen, etc are built using this System.
Key characteristics of ReboundCore™
- Responsive seating behavior
- Controlled return after use
- Designed for relaxed, long sitting
ReboundCore™ moves when you do. It returns when you don’t.
What Is FormLock™?
FormLock™ is the seat system used for firm, structured seating. This system prioritises internal alignment, shape retention, and long-term structure. Seats built with FormLock™ do not soften significantly over time and are not designed for sink-in comfort. Instead, they offer posture support, visual discipline, and consistency.
FormLock™ is commonly used in executive seating, statement sofas, and spaces where structure and presence are essential. Cava and Piaf Sofa both fall into this category.
Key characteristics of FormLock™
- Firm, disciplined seating
- Shape retention over time
- Minimal internal compression
FormLock™ holds structure. The seat does not give.
What Is MK-I?
MK-I is Urban Crescent’s outdoor-led seat system.Unlike indoor seating, outdoor seats must perform under less controlled conditions. Exposure, frequent use, and varying weight distribution. MK-I is designed with this reality in mind. Instead of absorbing weight into foam, MK-I spreads load across the frame. This keeps the seat level, stable, and durable over time. Foam is used minimally and intentionally, while the frame does most of the work. MK-I is used for outdoor seating, benches, bar stools, and durable multi-use pieces.
Key characteristics of MK-I:
- Frame-forward construction
- Load distribution across structure
- Designed for repeat use and exposure
MK-I is built to spread load across the frame.
Why Urban Crescent Uses Seat Systems
Most furniture brands describe seats using vague terms like “soft,” “medium,” or “firm.” These descriptions are subjective and often misleading. By using defined seat systems, Urban Crescent ensures:
- Consistency across designs
- Predictable comfort and performance
- Seating that matches how clients actually live
Before fabric selection or finishing details, we decide how a seat should behave. Everything else follows from that decision.
Understanding these systems helps clients make better furniture decisions:
- Choose ReboundCore™ if you want responsive comfort and relaxed seating.
- Choose FormLock™ if you prefer firm, structured support.
- Choose MK-I if you need durable, outdoor-ready seating.
Each Urban Crescent seat is built using one of these systems intentionally, with you in mind.
